Our local city of Mount Dora has much more in common with a Scottish city than you might think—in fact, they’re sisters!
Mount Dora is the official twin, or sister, city of Forres, Scotland—a mere 4,000 miles (and one expansive ocean) away. This partnership is a result of both cities’ desire to foster the exchange of social, cultural and educational experiences between one another.
So far, we’d say this goal has been more than achieved by the two cities. They have established a student exchange, in which students from each city get to see what life is like “across the pond” for one month every year. Close to home, Mount Dora hosts special events that honor their Scottish sister city, such as the Mount Dora Scottish Highland Festival which is set to take place this month.
This arrangement gives Mount Dora locals a chance to soak up their share of Scottish culture, and share meaningful parts of their own lives as well. And of course, if you ever decide to visit Forres, you know you’ll have a friendly city awaiting your arrival!
